Few things make me happier than to make presents for people. If I had the time and, of course the money, I would make things all day long every day. This hanger was made with the most beautiful silk green ribbon(I only wish you could see it and feel it) with a satin back and some very sweet red through the middle. I had made the find of the century with the hand carved, hand painted buttons found at the GW. There were also just some cute glass and mother pearl etc… I had in the button box. For the large letters I had printed out a page of old typewriter keys and glued and lacquered them to large flat buttons.  After sewing all this together I made a steel hanger from some 20 gauge and added the black tassel to the bottom… voila. I really don’t think the pictures due this much justice but I will post this up at any rate. They really do make a lovely little house gift. It’s about 2″ wide and 22″ long.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and here’s to a fabulously creative and brilliant New Year. May we all find peace and happiness and prosper well on oh so many levels.

Patrick made this delicious pizza with tomato sauce from our garden, homemade crust with polenta, buffalo mozzarella and eggplant. Molto delizioso! and oh so pretty.

Also, I would like to remind you that this weekend,

December 4th and 5th

is the 3rd Annual Holiday Art Party,

11am – 5pm

december 4 & 5

11:a.m. to 5:p.m.

I’m really excited about the show this year. We have four amazing artists with great bits of jewelry, functional works; tea towels, the spinnaker cloth bags and now wallets and of course art, art, art… wonderfully rich oils and I’ve been having a great time creating a lot of new collage work from small pieces to more elaborate fun. I forget how much I love this work when I’ve been away from it awhile. We will, of course, ply you with tasty food and, apple cider or wine.

When Vinny an Hallie got married I’m no longer sure. It may have been past the one year mark that’s acceptable to bear wedding gifts but maybe not. Vinny is one of Patrick’s closest friends, he moved to Hawaii a few years back with Hallie. We’ve managed one visit that didn’t include a blanket in their modest but lovely place where they hosted us. Hallie worked in a surf shop as well as taught ballet and sold body products for Lush(not great packaging in my opinion but awesome stuff). Even with all that she found time for private snorkeling at 6a.m., not my usual hour but maaaan is it nice out there that time of morning! They took us on so many beautiful hikes, fed us and it was much better than any hotel could have been.

I still really felt that the blanket was needed so when they got married(we couldn’t make it or I may, even in my tiny cow sized brain, remember the date!) I decided I would have to make them a quilt. Something light weight, this is backed with a cotton sheet and lined with another. It’s perfect for the island heat yet hangs well and looks finished. They are both everything Hawaii so when we were in Oahu over the summer and found a fabric store with a bunch o Hawaiian prints we picked out the fabric there. Much love, t & p.

I was downtown today and happened into the Salvation Army as I am want to do sometimes. There in the midst of some fine items was this silly little tea cup, I kinda liked it. It said “hand painted” on the bottom as it clearly was. So I got home and, of course, googled the artist. It’s really nothing special but I do like it. I have attached a link here to the Tracy Porter site, some interesting things and not so interesting things. The tea cup set me behind a $1.25 by the way.

There are some people out there that are under some illusion that I get shit done. I do and I don’t. These three chairs(no before pics due to drowned camera) have been sitting around with the intent of my painting and making chair covers and all for what I think must be going on ten years now. I really have to think that is a fair amount of time to get his project done. I think what happened is I just wasn’t quite in the mood, didn’t know what color, didn’t feel like getting paint…. the list goes on. Then I forget about them and even as they sit in front of me at the dinner table night after night I began to feel that they were fine and then I think they became invisible, $2 price on the tape and all. So f i n a l l y I said to myself that I didn’t want all these people showing up for my birthday and still the chairs look like they belong in a yard sale. I was inspired to paint them to match this amazing weaving that my son brought me from Bhutan many years back. I’m afraid to use it as a table runner and so it hangs over the divider behind the kitchen table. It’s so beautiful and the colors in the weaving much more vibrant than that of the chairs but I LIKE it!

I am really wanting to do more of these projects and if you have anything that needs to be redone I’d love to talk to you about it.

Last year, maybe the year before? was the year Heather Ross created her infamous fish fabric. It’s really soft brushed cotton. I must have made at least four pair of boxers or pajama pants out of this splendid stuff. There may have even been a set of napkins. You should check out her fabrics, really fun.

So, nothing against Rachel, she teaches first grade so she gets a hall pass whenever she wants. Last week she gave up, brought me her fabric and I made her pj’s for her.

If any of the local folks are interested I’d love to do a class on making your own pajama bottoms. They’re really fun and take about two hours. Please write in here and we can make a date.

There’s not a lot to say here that isn’t already being said. I had a wonderful pig roast for my 50th. What didn’t happen was more pics of friends before my camera battery died and I hadn’t indulged in all that lovely champagne. Thank you most of all to Patrick who did soooo much for the big event. It would not have happened before, during or after in such a Patrick manner. The garlic bread in the gazebo changed my life.

The tomatoes this year, while the plants themselves look rather disheveled, are pumping out fruit. In one day I put up 9 jars of sauce. Last year I got 9 total. I’m very excited about this. Supper duper cool is my first praying mantis in the tomato bed. I feel like this must be a good omen and that they eat EVERYTHING buggy is a plus. I hope somehow eggs can happen and I get a whole bunch of the little nippers. Baby praying mantis, how cute!

Another important note is that I have these pics at all. Yes, I must admit that while taking pics of Patrick leaving for the Pac Cup race I dropped my camera into the harbor! I was so upset. My brother had given me that camera and I couldn’t even tell him it had happened. It sorta felt like the coat you lost the first time you wore it to school and you are sure that mom will be very disappointed. My brother would feel bad I’m sure, and I just felt awful. Patrick, best of boyfriends got me a camera for the birthday.(post to follow) So now I can show off my jars f toms and everything we’ve missed in the past month or so.

Many posts to follow…
